The department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Poltava region has decided to send 600 of its workers to the village of Velyky Sorochyntsi, Mirhorod district of Poltava region, to maintain public order at Sorochyntsi Fair on August 13-17.
A representative of the Poltava regional police department disclosed this to Ukrainian News.
If President Viktor Yuschenko of Ukraine and President Mikhail Saakashvili of Georgia come to the fair as they plan, 400 more policemen will be send to the scene to escort them, the representative said.
Ninety policemen will be on duty at the fair every day and 10 police dogs will be involved in night patrol.
A police station, State Road Inspectorate posts, patrol units and a public reception room will be posted in the fair grounds.
In addition, around 100 officers of the State Road Inspectorate will control entryways to the fair.
OJSC Sorochyntsi Fair, who is organizing the event, said grand opening of the fair takes place between 11 a.m. and 12 a.m. on August 14.
Consecration of grain crops just harvested in Poltava region, a folk music concert of Lithuanian, Hungarian and Georgian performers, karaoke contest and craft festival are on the program.
The organizer said more than UAH 1 million will be spent on the fair.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukrainian, Russian, Moldovan, Polish, Georgian, Belarusian, German and Polish enterprises will participate in the fair.
Over 350 music bands will be on stage; 300 craftsmen, 300 industrial enterprise and 700 individual entrepreneurs will participate.
The fair occupies an area of more than 16 hectares.
About 1 million people visit Sorochyntsi Fair every year.
